I’d like to introduce you to…

…the reading challenges I’ve decided to participate in this year.  I assure you you’re not hallucinating.  There are only two reading challenges listed.  And yes, this was done on purpose.  After my major crash & burn last year, I learned my lesson.  So in the name of keeping it simple, here are the details for the challenges I decided to go with:

100 Books In A Year Reading Challenge 2011!
Welcome to 100 Books In A Year Reading Challenge! In 2010 I managed to read 75 books, but I would like to read a lot more! That's why I decided to host my own reading challenge - to read 100 or more books in a year. I hope you will join me!

Sign Up Details
  • To sign up you MUST make a post on your blog about participating in the challenge this can be a post containing all your challenges, that's fine) - you then use the URL of the post to sign up to the challenge by adding it to Mr Linky below.  DO NOT just add your blog URL - this will be deleted.
  • You must add the button to your sidebar - make sure that it links back to this post so others can join the challenge if they wish.  Easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the code displayed below!
Challenge Details
  • Timeline:  01 Jan 2011 - 31 Dec 2011
  • Rules - Read 100 or more books in 2011
  • All books can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.
  • Only print books and ebooks count (no audiobooks).
  • You can join anytime between now and the later part of next year.
  • At the beginning of Jan 2011, I will add a link so you can add your reviews but this is not obligatory.
  • You don't have to have a blog to join in - for those without a blog just FILL IN THIS FORM and I will add you to the list - just join the discussion in the comments section to let us know when you've read a book and what you thought of it! :)
  • You can also follow each other's progress and chat about the VC books you read on Twitter too - just use #100BooksInAYear :)

The idea behind this is to find new authors that you’ve never tried before.  They can be in your genre of choice or be brave and try something new.  You never know what you’re going to like until you try it.
Here are the guidelines:
  1. The challenge will run from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
  2. Since this is an author challenge, there is no restriction on choosing your novels. They can definitely be from other challenges. However, the authors must be new to you and, preferably from novels. Anthologies are a great way to try someone new, but only a third of your new authors can be from anthologies.
  3. I want this to be an easy challenge, so you can pick to do either 15, 25 or 50 new authors. It all depends on how fast you read and how adventurous you want to be. For me, I’m trying another 50 new authors. If you reach your goal halfway through the year, don’t stop. Any new author you try can be added to Mr. Linky. We all want to know about your new experience.
  4. After reading your new author, write your review and then come back here and add your link to Mr. Linky. Make sure you include your name and the author, but adding the title is completely up to you.
  5. Bloggers or Non-Bloggers alike are welcome.
Once you reach your goal, you don’t have to stop.  Any new author you try, go ahead and head back here and add it to the list.  Introduce us all to whoever you find.  After all, there’s no reason to stop trying new authors, right?
If you’re interested in participating in either of these challenges click on the banners above.  Want to see how I’m doing?  Just click on the 2011 Reading Challenges tab above.  Wish me luck!
How about you guys?  Did you sign up for any reading challenges this year?

  1. Good luck Jen. I've never joined a reading challenge before. My book resolution for 2011 was to read different genres of romance. With that, I believe I will be experimenting with new authors. I think the New Authors challenge would be more up my alley!

  2. Thanks Zee! I think that sounds like a really good resolution. Sounds like the New Authors challenge would be a good match for you. If you're up to it I think you should give it a try. =)

  3. I also have joined a reading challenge either! I guess I'm afraid I won't be able to complete it or maybe it is just the fact that so many people join different reading challenges and I don't know which one to join myself. I am reading new authors all the time but for people who get stuck with reading only certain authors I love the challenge of stepping outside of the box and reading new authors.

  4. LOL...the variety of challenges can definitely be overwhelming. Each one has it's own appeal. If you decide to join one I'd go with one that's going to resemble your reading goals for the year. That way it's easier to make progress.

  5. You go girl :)

I'm also challenging myself to read 100 books this year!!

  6. Thanks Isa. I'll race ya! Nah, just kidding. No but, seriously...LOL!
