*SPOILER ALERT*
IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK OR THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE SERIES, PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE READING THIS POST!

If you were unable to re-read the book, go here for a Wikipedia plot summary.  PLEASE remember not to discuss events that occur in books 6 through 10.  We’re trying not to spoil the series for those readers who are reading the books for the first time.

I’ve decided to go easy on the questions this time around so I can give you all a chance to ask your own.  Here are some of the questions I chose to get the discussion ball rolling…

Discussion Questions:

1.  What did you think of Jason’s reaction to his first ‘shift’? (pg. 3)

2.  What was your reaction to Sookie and Sam’s steamy kiss?  (pg. 141)

3.  Did anyone else want to stab Selah Pumphrey’s hand with a fork?

4.  Is it just me or did you all have the overwhelming need to junk punch Alcide?  (What?  You don’t know a junk punch is?!  Please click here).

5.  Did you all flinch when Sookie finally revealed to Eric what had gone down between them?  (pg. 214)

6.  Were you able to predict who the sniper was or did it completely throw you for a loop when it was revealed?

Favorite Quotes:

I like men in general, and some men in specific, but when I saw them practically circle each other as they sniffed each other’s butts – excuse me, exchanged greetings – I just had to shake my head.  (pg. 160)

“Should I just bite you, and end it all?” he whispered.  “I would never have to think about you again.  Thinking about you is an annoying habit, and one I want to be rid of.  Or should I start arousing you, and discover if sex with you was really the best I’ve ever had?”  (pg. 219-220)

I was sick of it—sick of being scared of the bogeyman’s dick.  (pg. 223)

I nodded wordlessly.  I thought, Instead of a cook-off, we could have a cock-off.  Instead of a fishing derby, we could have a…  (pg. 230)

  1. 1. I kind of thought that Jason was feeling sick to his stomach because of a few reasons...that the shift was that harsh on his body that it and he weren't ready for it and still needs to adjust, that he was in shock that he can do that now, that he ate a raw animal the night before and that thought was bothering him. LOL. But I think it is awesome that he really enjoyed it even though it scared him because he's stuck with this the rest of his life.

  2. 2. I have always really loved Sam, I think he is genuine and that he really cares and loves Sookie on more than a physical level. I think he missed the boat a little from the first book since he waited until she was dating Bill to really share his feelings and his secret. But the kiss was hot and you can tell there is something there between both of them...too bad Bill had to interrupt it!!!

  3. 1) LOL! At first, I thought he lost his mind. He seemed so normal about it. It was pretty strange, but I am with Deanna, it is amazing he felt good about and wasn't frightened out of his wits or something.

  4. 2) Agreed Deanna, he waited way too long. I would have liked the kiss more if it didn't happen while Sookie is technically between two other guys. Other than that, it was nice.

  5. 3)LOL! More than you know. She thinks because she is rich, she is better than everyone else especially Sookie. But I found it interesting that she thought poor women were better in bed. What the hell?!

  6. 3) LOL, I completely agree with that Diana! It was weird that she though poor women were better in bed. I couldn't figure out where she got that from. And Bill pissed me off because he was using her to just make Sookie jealous yet he's the one who messed it all up! Grrrr

  7. 2) I also agree about that. Sookie's relationship life is just really confusing right now. She's got Eric trying to figure out what happened in the last book and Sookie still has the feelings for Eric minus the memories. She's got Sam still coming onto her and showing what kind of feelings she has. She has Alcide trying to say that they should be together because they get along so well and then she has Bill trying to make her jealous. I would just say screw all guys and tell them all to leave me the F alone! :-P

  8. 2) I forgot about Alcide. I wouldn't say screw them all, but figure out which one is best for her. Bill was a moron and cheated on her, Alcide is attracted to a psycho-chick he doesn't know is dead, Sam has awful timing and Eric is a mystery. Jeez, how does she stay sane, really?

  9. 4) I did want to punch Alcide, but I understand him in a weird screwed up way. I honestly think he is clueless when it comes to women. If he wasn't, he would actually have a better shot with Sookie.

  10. 4) Oh, that is right he did know about Sookie killing Debbie, right? The whole favor thing. Yeah, he really did act like a bastard. But I think some of that still think his attitude has a lot to do with Debbie even though Sookie was in the right

  11. 5)I didn't flinch necessarily, I was just expecting him to act a bit differently. He acted like he knew it would happen eventually and seemed only interested in wanting to know if he asked her if he really did say he would give up everything for her.

  12. 6) Yes I did. I did one of those double takes to make sure I read it right LOL! But I love a twist, so it was great :)

  13. I would like to know your thoughts on Quinn. At first, I thought he would be big, mean and scary. But I really like him. What do you guys get from him in this book?

  14. @Deanna - I also thought he handled the shift really well all things considering.

I too wanted to slap Bill. He's over a hundred years old for goodness sake. He should be done playing all those childish games. Typical man I tell ya.

LMAO! You go D! I'd probably give them the finger while I was at it. ;-)

@Diana - I agree with you about Sam's timing. I guess no one told him that the early bird gets the worm.

I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that wanted to do bad things to that witch. I also found her thoughts on "poor" women interesting. What a friggin' ignorant snob. Grrr...I get mad all over again.

If I thought Alcide was clueless I'd cut him some slack but, I think he knows what he's doing and I really hate that he manipulates Sookie.

Interesting point about Eric. Not that he would go through with giving up everything for her but, I guess he wanted to see what kind of trouble he got himself into.

Agreed. I liked that it was a double twist. Love being kept on my toes.

OMG! QUINN! I can't wait till the next book because I'm diggin' him something fierce!

  15. I did really enjoy Quinn in this book and I can't wait till the next book to get to no him more.

I was shocked at the outcome...Jen, I agree, I love being kept on my toes when it comes to the mystery of the story. I enjoy not know the entire time because it is so obvious.

I was kind of surprised that Sookie told Eric what happened when he had lost his memory. Part of me feels like maybe Eric would love to drop everything to be with Sookie now, but knows that there are way too many consequences to those actions that he can't do that.

Yes Diana, Alcide does know that Sookie killed Debbie now. I think he is confused and is trying to fill the void that is Debbie's death with Sookie. I think that he doesn't have evil intentions in his actions but he feels like maybe if he moves on then he won't feel that loss any more. Though I think he is going about it in the wrong way. If he does have feelings for Sookie and they are ment to be then he needs to try to get his emotions under control and move on from the lose of Debbie and then try to make things work with Sookie...

  16. Oh and Sam, yes I don't think he got the memo that the early bird gets the worm either. I think Sam is genuine and I think that he has feelings for Sookie in many many ways but he has not been very straight with her and he always seems to pick the worst time in the world to try to show her his feelings! If I could jump in the book and be with any of the guys though, I think it would be Sam because he is not the bad boy, overly attractive, all the girls want him type of guy. He is just a down-to-earth, caring, quite, sweet, and safe type...know what I mean?

  17. @Jen - Good point, Alcide isn't an idiot, so I am sure he knew he was manipulating Sookie. Maybe he thought he should given what he knew.

I definitely liked the twist for sure. Like being kept on my toes indeed :)

I love Quinn! He was one of my favorites from this series. Can't wait until the next book.

  18. @Deanna - I knew Sookie would tell Eric, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. But I knew Eric wouldn't have fallen to his knees or anything, he is too standoffish for that.

Great point hon. I think what he did was a way to punish her. He is going about it the wrong way, then again, he is a man LOL!

  19. Poor poor Sam. He is always so late. Why can't his courage kick in sooner? Jeez, what is wrong with him. You are right though Deanna, Sam would be the perfect guy considering all the men in the series. But I don't know, I prefer someone with a little more toughness. Maybe it is just me LOL
