Plinky Question of the Day

The Plinky Question of the Day is a weekly feature I added to the blog to get to know you guys better and vice versa.  Sometimes the questions will deal with books or reading but, most of the time they won’t.  Because, let’s face it, there’s more to us than what we read.

Can you play any musical instruments?  If not, which would you like to learn?

Do Rock Band instruments count?!

No!?  Shit!  Well then all I got is a basic understanding of how to use a recorder.  *blank stares*  Okay here’s a visual…

I had to learn how to play one in the 4th or 5th grade.  I hated every second of it because they were classroom recorders so you never knew whose mouth was on it before yours.  *shiver*

As far as which one I’d like to learn how to play, I’d go with the acoustic guitar all the way.  I’d learn every Bob Marley and Jack Johnson song known to man.  There’s just something about the sound of an acoustic guitar that sets my soul at ease.

How about you guys?  Can you get down on a musical instrument?  If you can’t, which one would you love to learn how to play?

  1. I had to learn the recorder too when I was in grade school! We actually were allowed to buy our own that we had to bring to music class with us so that was nice. I also learned the clarinet. But I would like to learn how the play the fiddle (which is just a violin but it's the style you play it that changes what name you use). I think that would rock!!!

  2. I leaned the recorder too in school, but I don't remember how to play it now. I played the transverse flute in high school. I was even in the band...but I don't remember how to play it now. I took piano lessons for quite a few years when I was a kid too, but never fully enjoyed it...and don't really remember how to play anything anymore. So yeah...I guess my answer would be No, I don't really play anything now. lol

  3. The musical gene skipped me entirely and was bestowed to my brothers. I too played the recorder in 3rd grade (or some shit) but that is where my musical accomplishments end.

My brothers on the other hand joined band in the 6th grade and thus learned to play the trumpet, clarinet, sax, barry sax and one of them is teaching himself to play the guitar.

If I had the talent to learn an instrument(s) it would have been the violin and/or the drums. I love string instruments and percussion :)

  4. Thanks for stopping by ladies! Nice to see I wasn't the only one made to suffer with that damn recorder.

@Deanna: Lucky duck. I would've jumped at the chance to buy my own. The fiddle? Really? Interesting.

@Julie: LMAO! Isn't learning an instrument like learning to ride a bike. Even if you haven't done it for a while you still remember, no?

@Isa: Me too! I had a hard time reading music and I suck at carrying a tune. I can see you rockin' out on some drums. This is why I love Rock Band. I can live out my rockstar fantasies without making a complete ass of myself. Actually that's not true...I'm sure I've made an ass of myself playing Rock Band on numerous occasions. *sigh*
