The Plinky Question of the Day is a weekly feature I added to the blog to get to know you guys better and vice versa. Sometimes the questions will deal with books or reading but, most of the time they won’t. Because, let’s face it, there’s more to us than what we read.
What do you do to stay healthy?
Since I’m always on a quest to find out about new exercise programs/classes and healthy eating plans, I figured I’d tackle a health conscious question today. I know it’s kind of boring but, we need to keep ourselves healthy people.
As some of you may already know, as far as exercise goes I try to make it to my kickboxing class three times a week. It’s a pretty grueling workout but, I love the intensity and the aggression that goes with it. Another plus for me is that my instructor always has something different for us. For me, that’s key because I have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to exercising.
Another thing I’ve started to incorporate into my exercise schedule is MMA training/conditioning once or twice a week. I do it mostly for two reasons. Reason A) my Dad is in the process of becoming a certified trainer so it helps him create training routines for his future fighters and B) it’s a way for me to bond with my Pops and see him on the regular. Don’t look so horrified guys. I don’t actually fight anyone with the exception of my kickboxing instructor and it’s only really light sparring. In my kickboxing classes I focus more on punching/kicking the punching bags or hand pads. In the MMA session my Dad focuses more on jujitsu takedowns and grappling work but, it’s mainly on a dummy bag.
Wow…after proofreading this post it dawned on me that I might give off the impression of someone who walks around being all angry and ready to throttle someone at a moments notice. LOL! I promise I’m one of the nicest, most easy going people you’ll ever meet. One of the main reasons I keep going back for more punishment is because I love being able to release all my tension, anger and frustration during a workout. I feel a million times better after an hour of roundhouse kicks and uppercuts. The other minor and slightly more embarrassing reason I keep going back to class is because I sometimes envision myself as some of my favorite UF/PNR heroines opening up a can of whoop ass on their enemies. And damn it if doesn’t make me feel all kinds of empowered. Okay so now that everyone’s looking at me like this O_o I think I’ll shut my trap before you guys are convinced that I’m the conductor on the crazy train.
What do you guys do to keep yourselves healthy?
