Plinky Question of the Day

plinkybanner

The Plinky Question of the Day is a weekly feature I added to the blog to get to know you guys better and vice versa. Sometimes the questions will deal with books or reading but, most of the time they won’t. Because, let’s face it, there’s more to us than what we read.

What are people surprised to learn about you?

The off the top of my head answer is that people are usually surprised to learn that I have very eclectic taste in music.  To break it down a little further, I think they’re usually most surprised by the fact that I like hip hop / rap music.  Not only do I like it but, I can often be found singing / rapping along to the music.  My boyfriend, who grew up on hip hop, is still surprised every time he throws on something from his music collection and finds me singing / rapping along to it.  What?  Why are you guys looking at me like I have two heads?  Ooohh…I get it…you think that I’m sitting here listening to stuff about bitches and hoes and drive-bys and all that nonsense.  I can’t tolerate that type of subject matter for more than 3 seconds.  Here are some examples of some of my favorite songs from the genre:

Umi Says by Mos Def

Can I Kick by Tribe Called Quest

You Got Me by The Roots feat. Erykah Badu

The People by Common

That wasn’t so bad, right?

Alright now it’s your turn.  What is something I’d be surprised to learn about you?

  1. Hmm. I have two, but only one I feel comfortable sharing publicly. Ha.

I'm left-handed. Most people are right-handed and simply assume everyone is just like them. But, I'm not. ;)

  2. I'm really into those Big Foot shows on Discovery. My husband rolls his eyes at me when I butt in and steal his TV remote.

  3. @Amanda - LOL! That's understandable. I have several family members and friends who are lefties so I try not assume everyone I meet are righties. I think lefties are pretty cool. ;)

@Rain Maiden - Big Foot, eh? Very interesting. I didn't even know that Discovery had Big Foot shows. Now everytime I see that Red Robin commercial with Big Foot I'll think of you.

  4. I just remembered an even better one: at a couple weeks short of 26, I'm probably 30% to 35% gray already. I got my first gray hair when I was 15.

And NO ONE ever believes me when I tell them.

  5. My Umi is one of my favorite Mos Def tunes. ♥ And Amen for intelligent hip-hop. I would add in Atmosphere and Swollen Members. ;)

Amanda - I'm gray already too! I started graying mid-20s, as well. Ugh. Suxors.

  6. @Amanda - Girl I'm a believer! I'm part of the pre-mature graying commitee with you and Ash. It sucks majorly. I hate being a slave to the hairdresser. Ugh!

@Ash - I love me some Atmosphere too. Don't think I've ever heard of the Swollen Members though.

  7. If my mom didn't do hair for a living, you can bet that I would probably not even color my hair.

But she does. And now I like to think of my gray hair as free highlights. I just got a violet red in my hair, and the gray hairs pick up a lot of that awesome color. :)

  8. Talk about hitting the proverbial jackpot.

I love red hair but, it's too much for a lazy girl like me to maintain. I'm a little jealous. ;)

  9. Ha. Since my hair is pretty much a reflection on my mom, she's the one who will be like, "Hmm, you're getting gray, it's time to color again" before I even have the chance to ask.

But yeah, I agree. Red hair is a pain to maintain. But I have enough gray hair right now that even if I stuck to my natural brown, I'd still have to color it as often as red hair.

  10. Um...I would agree with the music thing. Most people assume that the only type of music I listen to is country. I love country, don't get me wrong but I love all kinds of music!

Good Charlotte is my favorite band ever followed by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and then Montgomery Gentry. I listen to Rap/rock/pop/hip-hop/R&B/alternative/country/oldies/and everything in between. That really shocks people.

  11. Um... People are sometimes surprised that I don't speak with a French accent. And when people find out I have a tattoo, they are often surprised. It's not big or anything, but they just don't figure me to be a 'tattoo kind of girl' I suppose. LOL I'm really not that interesting...lol

  12. @Amanda - LOL! It's definitely not a bad perk to have. This being a woman thing is so not easy. A man grays and it's sexy. A woman grays and we're hags. Bah!

@D - Yeah, I could see where people wouldn't really expect you to listen to Good Charlotte. You have to listen to all kinds of stuff to call yourself a music lover, right?!

@Julie - Is that because you're Canadian? LOL! Oh man that's right. You do have a tattoo. I'll admit that I was surprised when I found out you had one. People are you usually surprised when they find out I have one so I can relate. Oh shoosh you. You are very interesting!

  13. That tho I am pretty serious I can have a very, very dry sense of humor. They usually don't catch that I am kidding.

  14. @heavenisabookstore - I have a few friends with very dry senses of humor. I didn't get them at first but, I've gotten used to it. Thanks for sharing!
