Plinky Question of the Day

plinkybanner

The Plinky Question of the Day is a weekly feature I added to the blog to get to know you guys better and vice versa. Sometimes the questions will deal with books or reading but, most of the time they won’t. Because, let’s face it, there’s more to us than what we read.

What were the must-have toys when you were a kid?

This one is easy.  There were 3 highly sought after and coveted toys I remember wanting when I was a kid.  They were:

Cabbage Patch Kids

Cabbage Patch Kids

I’m not sure what the obsession was.  They’re super creepy looking and they had signatures on their butts.  I hear my Mom almost got into a fist fight at a Toys ‘R’ Us over this doll.  I’m not sure how true that is but, it’s a fun story to tell.

Easy Bake Oven

Easy Bake Oven

I admit that I don’t like anything having to do with cooking.  However, I’ve always had a thing for baking.  I think the batter that came with the set didn’t taste all that great but, I didn’t care.  It was the act of baking that I enjoyed the most.

Snoopy Sno-cone Machine

Snoopy Sno Cone Machine

I damn near had a conniption when I opened this gift on Christmas.  Of the three this is probably the toy I wanted most.  I made sno-cones until the damn thing broke.

So guys, what toys were must-haves when you were kids?

  1. Strawberry Shortcake was my most wanted toys as a kid. I have to laugh at the Easy Bake over because it's a long on going joke with my husband and his older brother.

  4. I second the Strawberry Shortcake doll, only I think me and my sisters all wanted the baby dolls that when you pushed on their tummies a whiff of scent came out. I coveted the Baby Apricot and my mom scoured the state looking for one. The cool part...I still have it and have since passed it on to my daughter. Oddly enough, this was one of the rare girly toys I had because I was more of a tomboy.

Other toys that rocked when I was a kid:

    *Star Wars action figures
*G.I. Joes to battle (and lose to) my Star Wars people
    *He-man, She-ra, Thundercats, Transformers, Smurfs

Essentially all the stuff that is being rebooted for this generation.

  5. I forgot about the superheroes! They meshed in nicely with my Star Wars guys and provided hours of warlike, battling entertainment. And if you were to dig up the backyard of my old house, right under this giant walnut tree, you would find my action figure cemetery. It's a treasure trove of wrapped up action figures.

  6. @RainMaiden - lol! No worries. I knew what you trying to say. Strawberry Shortcake was in high demand too.

@Juju - I loved me some Care Bears too.

@Anna - That's cool that you were able to pass down one of your favorite toys down to your daughter. I had all kinds of She-Ra toys too. Also had a lot of Jem stuff.

LMAO! I think digging up the action figure cemetary would be a cool project. Kind of like digging up a time capsule.

    Thanks for stopping by ladies.

  8. Me too I would include the Cabbage Patch Kid. I was VERY specific in telling Santa which one I wanted. I needed to have one with blond hair (but not the yellow blond) and green eyes and it had to be a girl. I don't know how my mom, uh...I mean Santa, even managed to find exactly what I asked for. Seriously, the first year they came out I got Kathleen and she fits my description perfectly. I even still have her. Now my kids play with her. :)

@Julie - LOL! You're too funny. I think it's really cool that your kids get to play with your doll. Very cool hand me down. =)

  10. Wow, blast from the past right here! Mine also included the Cabbage Patch Kid and Easy Bake Oven as well as My Little Ponies and that Doodle Bear that you could mark all over it, throw it in the washer and start all over again. :-D

    Fun question!
