The world we knew is gone. The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled: no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. In a world ruled by the dead, the survivors are forced to finally start living.

This review ended up being harder to write than I initially thought.  I blame it on the fact that I watched the TV show before picking up the graphic novel.  Don't get me wrong, it was an excellent graphic novel.  The writing is great and the illustrations do the story justice.  But for some reason it feels like I'm reading cliff notes.

For those of you who have never read the graphic novel or seen the TV show (seriously, where have you been), here's the gist: dude wakes up from a coma, realizes the world has gone to hell in a hand basket, sets off to find his missing wife and kid and mayhem ensues.  For those of you who don't like the show because of the ick factor, the graphic novel might work out better for you.  It'll still make you squirm a bit but, nothing like the show would.

All in all I'm glad I checked it out from the library.  I throughly enjoyed it.
